Abstract

In order to determine the effect of dentogingival junction on tooth stability 45 adult male patients with periodontal disease were selected. On the four mandibular anterior teeth of all patients, the probing depth and the loss of attachment were
measured by Michigan-O probe and the tooth mobility was measured by Periotest(Siemens Co., Germany) before flap incision and immediately after removal of excised soft tissue during modified Widman flap operation.
The difference between tooth mobility measured before flap incision and that measured immediately after removal of dentogingival junction was statistically analyzed by paired t-test.
@ES The results were as follows:
@EN Tooth mobility was increased immediately after-removal of dentogingival junction(p<0.01).
2. In the group of teeth with deeper probing depth, more remarkable increase of tooth mobility was shown immediately after removal of dentogingival junction.
3. In the group of teeth with more loss of attachment, more remarkable increase of tooth mobility was shown immediately after removal of dentogingival junction.
4. It was suggested that dentogingival junction was one of the important contributing factors in stabilizing the teeth with periodontal destruction.
